Work permit update
From 25 July 2011 work visa holders will no longer need to obtain a variation of conditions to undertake training authorised by their employer as part of their job. This is great news as this requirement was a barrier to training for trainees and workplaces.
Since implementing changes in March 2010 that required work permit holders to obtain a variation of conditions to allow them to undertake training or study, Immigration New Zealand have continued to review the Work Visa requirements.
Immigration have announced new changes that will be implemented from 25 July 2011. The change that affects ITO trainees is as follows:
- Work visa holders will no longer need to obtain a variation of conditions to undertake training authorised by their employer as part of their job.
Please note that these changes do not come into effect until 25 July 2011, therefore if employers have any trainees on a work permit, that they wish to enrol we recommend that they hold back the training until 25 July. If trainees wish to enrol and undertake training before 25 July they will be required to obtain a variation of conditions to their work permit to allow this.
