Additional Dementia Unit Standard Assessment Criteria
This page contains specific information regarding Dementia Unit Standards 23920, 23921, 23922 and 23923
For these dementia Unit Standards the AMAP states: "all tutors and assessors must hold, or have held, a position of responsibility within the last 5 years that involves direct contact with consumers diagnosed with dementia within the last 5 years. This may be in a dementia unit, in a dementia day care centre, or with an individual consumer".
Position of responsibility
The designation “position of responsibility” will be interpreted as an employee (excluding volunteers) who:
- Holds a position that includes direct supervision or management of other staff within an organisation, residential complex/unit, clinical setting or agency, e.g. team leader, senior support worker, clinical co-ordinator, unit manager etc. and/or
- Has attained a qualification (minimum L4) and/or requisite degree of experience, and/or sufficient professional development to be able to work without direct supervision in an autonomous or semi-autonomous capacity, e.g. district nurse, RN or EN working as part of a community nursing team etc.
Direct contact with consumers
The phrase “involves direct contact with consumers diagnosed with dementia” refers to a role that includes:
- Individual responsibility for clinical assessment, management, care and/or support of a person or persons diagnosed with dementia; and/or
- Participating in implementing a service delivery plan, care plan or equivalent for a person or persons diagnosed with dementia on a regular, scheduled basis; either within a residential complex, a day care facility or a person’s own home.
