Vision and Hearing Screening (Level 3)

The National Certificate in Community Support Services (Vision and Hearing Screening) qualification is designed for employees who conduct vision and hearing screening tests with children as specified by the Ministry of Health through the `National Vision Hearing Screening programme` and the `Well Child/Tamariki Ora National schedule`.

It is designed to support employers and employees to meet the requirements of the recently revised National Vision Hearing Screening Protocols.

It is a level 3 qualification on the National Qualifications Framework and consists of the nine compulsory unit standards and one elective unit standard. The qualification is made up of either 50 or 51 credits, depending on which elective unit standard is chosen.

The National Certificate is endorsed and strongly supported by the Vision and Hearing Technicians Society (VHT Society).

Completion Timeframe

The average timeframe in which people complete this programme is 10 months


Cost

The cost of this qualification is $430 (GST incl).

First VHS Graduates Become Assessors

successful VHS traineesTo support the assessment of this new qualification, Careerforce assisted five trainees to complete the qualification through a Recognition of Current Competencies programme. The five graduates have also completed their assessor training and as a result will now be able to support other trainees complete the qualification in the workplace.
