Residential (Level 3)

The National Certificate in Community Support Services (Residential) is designed to recognise the knowledge and skills required of residential-based support workers working in a health or disability setting.

It has been developed in conjunction with the National Certificate in Community Support (Core Competencies) which is a pre-requisite for this qualification, and supersedes the National Certificate in Support of the Older Person (Level 3).

It consists of a compulsory section of 11 unit standards totalling 47 credits, and an elective section of 5 unit standards from which 9 credits must be chosen to total 56 credits.

The compulsory section of the qualification includes skills and knowledge relating to handling people safely, infection control, supporting a person to take prescribed medication, supporting a person’s personal care needs, ageing process, observing and recording changes, responding to loss and grief, and supporting people with dementia.

The elective sections of the qualification enable candidates to select specific unit standards that support the requirements of their work environment.

Holders of the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Foundation Skills) (Level 2) can receive 22 credits towards the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Residential).

The cost of this qualification is $200 (incl GST) per trainee. Careerforce can provide eligible workplaces an assessment support rebate of $100 (incl GST) for every trainee that completes the Residential Strand with a 18 month time frame. Click here for more information.

Resources

Trainees undertaking this Qualification receive a Workbook and a Trainee Assessment Portfolio for each unit standard in the Qualification.

Workbooks are a learning aide for trainees. They are designed to be interesting and stimulating, and assist trainees to complete their Trainee Assessment Portfolio (TAP). A Trainee Assessment Portfolio is effectively an answer book for the trainee to complete for each unit standard.
