Intellectual Disability (Level 3)

The National Certificate in Community Support Services (Intellectual Disability) is designed to recognise the knowledge and skills required in the delivery of disability support services.

It has been developed in conjunction with the National Certificate in Community Support (Core Competencies) which is a pre-requisite for this qualification.

The Qualification consists of a compulsory section of 5 unit standards totalling 20 credits, and an elective section of 14 unit standards from which 28 credits must be chosen to total 48 credits.

The compulsory section of the qualification includes skills and knowledge relating to personal and community values, causes and associated conditions of intellectual disability, role of a support worker, support personal planning to enhance individual lifestyles, and reporting changes in a person’s condition.

The elective section of the qualification enables candidates to select specific unit standards that support the requirements of their work environment.  It includes standards that cover cultural aspects of care and standards that cover knowledge of epilepsy and autism.  It also covers aspects of personal care and risk management.

The cost of this qualification is $200 (incl GST) per trainee. Careerforce can provide eligible workplaces an assessment support rebate of $100 (incl GST) for every trainee that completes the Intellectual Disability Strand within an 18 month time frame. Click here for more information.
