Human Services (Level 3)

The National Certificate in Community Support Services (Human Services) is designed to recognise the knowledge and skills required of support workers in the delivery of human support services.

It has been developed in conjunction with the National Certificate in Community Support (Core Competencies) which is a pre-requisite for this qualification, and supersedes the National Certificate in Human Services (Level 4).

The qualification consists of a compulsory section of 10 unit standards totalling 41 credits, and an elective section of 6 unit standards from which 14 credits must be chosen to total 55 credits.

The compulsory section of the qualification includes skills and knowledge relating to maintaining documentation, personal and community values, value of relationships, implications for a sibling, supporting a person with a communication impairment, infection control, safe working environment, facilitating a learning plan, reporting changes in a person’s condition, and ethical behaviour.

The elective section of the qualification enables candidates to select specific unit standards that support the requirements of their work environment.  It includes standards that cover cultural aspects of care and standards that cover knowledge of epilepsy and communication with deaf and hearing impaired people.  It also covers some legal aspects and more detailed knowledge of issues associated with intellectual disability.

Holders of the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Foundation Skills) (Level 2) can receive 11 credits towards this qualification.

The cost of this qualification is $200 (incl GST) per trainee. Careerforce can provide eligible workplaces an assessment support rebate of $100 (incl GST) for every trainee that completes the Human Services Strand within an 18 month time frame. Click here for more information.
