Residential Limited Credit Programme (Level 4)

This group of unit standards for this Limited Credit Programme (LCP) supports care-givers entering the dementia residential field and represents the essential knowledge and skills required for working with residents affected by dementia.

The age related residential care contract requires care-givers to complete the unit standards relating to dementia care within twelve months of commencing employment.

In addition, feedback from industry indicates that some trainees are daunted by the prospect of starting the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Residential) (L3) and its pre-requisite the National Certificate in Community Support (Core Competencies) (L3), a combined two-year programme of 113 credits. Providing trainees with the opportunity to commit to a smaller group of unit standards (LCP) provides a more accessible pathway into training; and once trainees have experienced success, many will move on to complete one or both National Certificates.

The Residential LCP programme replaces the existing 27-credit LCP in Support of the Older Person which is expiring.

Resources

Trainees undertaking this LCP receive a Workbook and a Trainee Assessment Portfolio for each unit standard in the Qualification.

Workbooks are a learning aide for trainees. They are designed to be interesting and stimulating, and assist trainees to complete their Trainee Assessment Portfolio (TAP). A Trainee Assessment Portfolio is effectively an answer book for the trainee to complete for each unit standard.

Trainee Assessment Portfolios

Trainee Assessment Portfolios for the four compulsory Unit Standards which make up the Residential LCP are provided below:

23920Demonstrate knowledge of dementia, person-centred care and communication for a person living with dementia (23920)
23920Provide person-centred care when supporting a person living with dementia (23921)
