Guide Dog Training
The National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Trainer) and National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Instructor) have been designed to be delivered by accredited education providers. For a list of accredited education providers for these qualifications, click here.
National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Trainer) (Level 5)
People who have been awarded this qualification are able to develop training programmes, assess, and train guide dogs to international standards for use within New Zealand and overseas, and to provide information to the media and interest groups.
This diploma leads onto the National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Instructor).
National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Instructor) (Level 7)
Holders of the qualification are able to work as a member of a team to assess vision impaired people for suitability for Guide Dogs, match and instruct those people with qualified Guide Dogs, train those people to manage the qualified Guide Dogs to national and international standards, and provide information to interest groups.
This diploma builds on the skills and knowledge attained through the National Diploma in Guide Dog Training (Trainer). It is designed to provide further specialised training for people who work as a member of an animal care and handling team or environment.
