Mental Health  and Addiction Pathway

It has been an interesting year in the development of the mental health and addiction pathway. We have debated important issues that impact on training and thoroughly scoped out the role of the mental health and addiction support worker. The role if anything is diverse and multi-faceted. Trying to build a new range of unit standards that will be common to all staff working in the mental health and addiction sector has been a challenge. We have been fortunate to have some excellent input from our reference group and sector panel.

The bulk of the work in 2010 will focus on qualifications or unit standards in specialist mental health and addiction areas. We will be again calling on employer groups to provide us with panel members to give expert input into these specialist areas. Thanks again to everyone who has supported this project in 2009.
