Assessment

As part of Careerforce's quality assurance process and in line with NZQA requirements, unit standards are assessed by a qualified Workplace Assessor. Workplace Assessment measures the achievement of unit standards within the work environment. It is facilitated by a workplace assessor and supported by verifiers and attestations. This model captures naturally occurring evidence and will align with existing policies and procedures.

Assessment Materials

Careerforce developed assessment is provided to the workplace for each trainee upon signing of a training agreement. This assessment requires each trainee to complete an assessment portfolio that comprises two sections:

  • assessment tasks
  • workplace verification tasks to confirm competency in practical tasks, understanding of policies and procedures, and application of learning to the job.

These are accompanied by workplace assessment portfolios for each unit standard which include model answers, evidence and judgements to ensure fair assessment practices.

Training providers who wish to use their own assessment resources must have these moderated and approved by Careerforce prior to use.

Registered Workplace Assessors

A workplace assessor is a very important part of the national qualification at Careerforce. They have the skills and knowledge to work with trainees to complete the assessment process and assist the trainee to gain recognition for the skills and knowledge they are gaining on the job.

The role of a Careerforce Registered Workplace Assessor is to:

  • Oversee workplace verification by supporting workplace verifiers.
  • Evaluate the assessment evidence provided by a trainee to determine competence in a unit standard.
  • Send assessment results to Careerforce for registration on an individual's NZQA Record of Learning.
  • Support moderation processes.
  • Conduct formal assessment as required.
  • Coach and mentor.
  • Manage marking by the workplace.
