Unit Standards and Trainee's Assessments

Unit standards are regularly reviewed by Careerforce to ensure they meet the needs of the sector. If changes are required a new version of that standard is registered by NZQA and put on their website (www.nzqa.govt.nz), replacing the earlier version. There can be a time lag between registration of an updated version of a unit standard and the production of the corresponding updated issue of the trainee's assessment.

Until the updated issue of the trainee's assessment is available you can continue to use the assessment that corresponds to the prior version of the unit standard. As that version is no longer available on the NZQA website, Careerforce has provided them below.

The table below lists the latest issues of trainee's assessments and shows the version of the unit standard that relates to each trainee's assessment.

Resources for the revised Foundation Skills

Careerforce has renamed, re-written and re-designed the workplace assessment portfolios (WAPs) and trainee assessment portfolios (TAPs) for new and significantly changed unit standards within Foundation Skills version 3. They are now be called ''assessor's guides' and 'trainee's assessments' and have simpler language, sample answers, and make greater use of colour coding to guide people through different sections.

Careerforce has  also developed new and improved workbooks for the four compulsory unit standards in the revised version of Foundation Skills national certificate, and for the infection control unit standard.

Please note that it is possible to use the new trainee's assessments for all the the old workbooks except for Rights 23686 which requires the new workbook as it has additional content.

Printing trainee's assessments

Trainee's assessments are in landscape form. To print out a new trainee's assessment so it is double sided, stapled, and in book form, select the following print options:

  • In “basic”, change the page orientation from portrait to landscape
  • In “layout”, under print type, select 2-sided. Then under binding position, select left bind

Purchasing printed trainee's assessments

Professionally printed trainee's assessments can be purchased at shop.careerforce.org.nz for $5 each (plus GST and freight) .
