Ngā Ratonga – Our services

We are small team who operate like a whanau and are based in the Northshore. Within our residential unit, we offer five beds and work with adults, who are challenged with an intellectual disability and an Axis one mental health diagnosis. As dual disability residential service we provide 24-hour support at the level necessary for our residents.

Our team aim create a safe, nurturing home, that is respectful of our resident’s individuality, individual needs, are sensitive and supportive to their aspirations. We aim foster good relationships to maximise inclusion and participation in the community and provide the tools necessary to carry out activities of daily living.

Job Description

He kōrero mō te tūranga - The role

We are looking for a mental health professional to join our Emerge Aotearoa whanau. You will need to be able to successfully interact with both whanau and support agencies, while possessing a strong understanding of cultural contexts and self-awareness. When it comes to our resident's recovery and wellbeing, we make sure they're input is central to the decision-making process. You'll need to bring your clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice, as you'll be making a strong contribution to the planning and review of individualised support plans. You'll be able to identify achievable goals, encourage relationships, community participation and life skills. This vacancy is a full-time permanent position on works on rostered shifts 7am to 3.30pm, 3pm to 11.30pm and 11pm to 7.30am Monday to Sunday

He kōrero mōu - About you

Sometimes faced with challenging behaviour you'll utilize your calmness to engage and empathize with tangata and whānau, you will be quick to think on your feet and deal with situations when tangata whaiora become unwell and need support. Being able to demonstrate assertiveness, accountability, compassion for people and encourage them to change is important to this role. The ability to coach and mentor Kaimahi and communicate effectively will also be beneficial to this role. The ideal candidate will also have the following:

Current registration with a professional body covered by HPCA 2003 Act, Social Work Registration, Nursing, Occupational Therapist or DAAPANZ
Post qualifying experience working within the Mental Health/AO Sector
Knowledge and experience of working in a residential setting would be beneficial
A current Full New Zealand driver's licence
The right to work in New Zealand.
