Job Description

Friendly and reliable female carer sought to take on a disability support role for a 19-year old girl who has autism and intellectual (but no physical) disability.  


  • is lots of fun and needs someone who can engage with her sense of humour 
  • loves outings in the community e.g. beach or bush walks, hydrotherapy pool and contact with other disabled young people and important people in her life
  • needs support with trying out new activities e.g. special Olympics, plus table-top activities


  • Can provide some personal care as needed
  • Will have a full driving license and be happy to drive in the area (car provided)
  • Will be happy to do some housework including basic food preparation, washing, ironing school uniforms, tidying the kitchen and vacuuming
  • Will need to have a good level of physical fitness (no heavy lifting involved but you will need to be able to keep up with her!
  • Comprehensive training in all aspects will be given.
  • Preferred hours of work are weekly split shifts on Sundays. The dayshift is 10.30 am to 3.30 pm, the evening sleepover shift is 7 pm to 11.59 pm on Sunday.  Then the Monday sleepover shift is midnight to Monday morning 8.15 am. However any part hours of these hours would be considered.
  • Possibilities of more work available (i.e. covering shifts in the case of illness or holiday; school closures and school holidays)
  • Role will be offered on the basis of a clean police check.
  • The hourly pay rate is between $22.49 to $31 per hour, which is determined by Pay Equity Act, relevant work experience and/or on the job performance.
  • Start date is negotiable

If you are interested in studying then the level 1 to 4 NZQA Certificates in Health and Wellbeing, Disability will be supported with Careerforce training.  These qualifications are on the job and self paced, on line study.  The Pay Equity pay rates correspond to each level of qualification, your hourly rate goes up with each level of qualification.

Preference will be given for carers who have some experience caring for people with disabilities, however previous childcare experience with contactable referees will also be considered.  We will consider applications from people for whom this may be a new area of work.
