The role is supporting clients with a mental health diagnosis within our residential services in Lower Hutt, Wellington.

Job Description

He kōrero mō te tūranga - The role
Community Support Workers insure the smooth operation of the residential service while helping our tangata whaiora to reach their potential. Although there is a wide variety of activities involved, Community Support Workers help people with achieving as much independence as possible. At Emerge we have a real "start where the person is at" belief system and build on strengths. Your job will be to engage whaiora as well as possible while being able to relate to a wide group of external and internal stakeholders. You'll also be given the opportunity to be upskill and train further in the mental health field. You will be well supported by your colleagues, service manager, health professionals and the wider emerge whanau. This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of people in the community to help them to reconnect, learn, grow, and live as independently as possible. This service operates 24/7, so shifts are allocated on a rotating roster across the morning, afternoon and overnight, Monday through Sunday. This is a permanent, part-time opportunity (24 hours per week).
He kōrero mōu - About you
We are looking for someone who is positive, flexible, vibrant, confident, and compassionate to work in our service. You'll contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and create a safe, calm, and nurturing spaces whānau. You'll encourage whānau to engage in therapy, meaningful programmes, and educational/vocational activities. You'll naturally be a problem solver, quick thinker and enjoy connecting with the community in line with the reintegration plan. You'll use your non-judgemental attitude and belief to encourage clients to change and grow. You'll look to celebrate the success of tāngata whaiora while on their recovery and wellbeing journey. To be successful in this role, you'll need a Level 4 in Health and Wellness qualification. Previous knowledge and experience of working with people with a complex mental health diagnosis' is desirable but not essential. Your passion for supporting people is the most important however a major requirement. You will be comfortable in tikanga Māori environment and have the ability to work alongside people of all ages and diverse personalities. You will be resilient and be able to think on your feet while keeping calm and remaining patient in all situations.
