Based in Mount Cook, Wellington, this is a Youth transitional residential service which supports up to eight Rangatahi. At King Street Youth Transitional our purpose is to support tangata whaiora to integrate back into the community within a two year time frame As a Community Support Worker, you will be part of a supportive team with a manager who cares and wants to see you thrive in your role.

Job Description

He kōrero mō te tūranga - The role

As a Youth Support Worker, you'll provide wrap-around support to Tangata Whaiora between the ages of 18-25 years, in a hands-on capacity in a service that has a whanau orientated framework.

This is a varied role, and your day-to-day duties will depend on the needs of the individual Tangata Whaiora. You'll coach, mentor, and work with youth to gain real skills by encouraging their participation with day programme activities, support them with individual goal plans and encourage wider whanau and community connections.

You'll support with medication management and helping Tangata Whaiora be as autonomous as possible.

He kōrero mōu - About you

You'll contribute to maintaining a safe working environment and create safe, calm, and nurturing spaces for Tangata Whaiora. You'll encourage whānau to engage in therapy, meaningful programmes, and educational/vocational activities. Communication skills and a strong cultural competency are vital for this role. It's desirable that you have a Level 4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate (or equivalent/higher), and previous experience working with youth, however; your passion for supporting people is the most important thing.

You'll also be given the opportunity to upskill and train further in the mental health field. You will be well supported by your colleagues, service manager, health professionals and the wider emerge whanau. This is a fantastic opportunity to have a direct impact on the lives of people in the community to help them to reconnect, learn, grow, and live as independently as possible.

This service operates 24/7, so shifts are allocated on a rotating roster across the morning, afternoon and overnight, Monday through Sunday.
