Job Description

Ngā Ratonga | Our services:

Phoenix is a community-based adult mental health and addictions service providing brief therapeutic interventions for adults over the age of 18 and their whānau. Phoenix is made up of experienced AOD Clinicians and Peer Support Specialists who work in partnership with adults. The service provides holistic support to fit the needs of our people and is delivered where they feel most comfortable e.g., at home, in a community setting, etc. The service works within the principles of abstinence and harm reduction and in a holistic manner, recognizing the multi-faceted problems that co-exist with AOD addiction.

He kōrero mō te tūranga | The Role

 Based in Papakura South Auckland, you will be responsible for providing peer support to people presenting with substance use issues and/or mental health issues. You'll be supporting people who live within the former Counties Manukau DHB catchment area. We're looking for expressions of interest from people who have personal lived experiences and are wanting to use their journey to recovery to help support and inspire others. You will be supporting people who have mental distress to move forward with their recovery within a supportive, compassionate, relaxed, peer-led service in collaboration with their clinical teams. To do this you need to have lived experience, be adaptable, and be able to perform under pressure.

This is a part-time role (24 hours per week).

He kōrero mōu | About You

You'll bring your own knowledge and experience of drug and alcohol addiction or mental health distress to the role, and we ask that you tell us about your journey in your cover letter. Being able to demonstrate assertiveness, accountability, and compassion for people and encourage them to change is really important to this role.

 Sometimes faced with challenging behavior you'll utilize your calmness to engage and empathize with whānau and be quick to think on your feet about how to deal with situations when whānau become unwell and are in need of support.

You will need to be flexible and happy to pick up "hands-on" duties. To be successful in this role, it's preferable that you have experience in a similar role.

A Level 4 in Health & Disability (or higher) qualification is desirable, however; if you're passionate about our mahi and you're willing to work towards a qualification we'll support you as much as we can. You'll be culturally respectful and non-judgemental - a strong understanding of Māori and Pasifika cultures is preferred.

A full New Zealand Driver's License is required for this role.
