Job Description

Te tūnga - The role
Piki Te Ora is a ten-bed residential service based in Te Hapara, designed to provide support to adults who may have a mental health diagnosis or are in recovery from an addiction. We're looking for a culturally respectful and non-judgemental person to join our team. You'll partner with tangata whaiora on their journey, walking alongside them using empathy and strength-based language to encourage clients to change and grow in this autonomous role. This can involve taking clients to appointments, support with household duties, or exercising with clients to meet their well-being goals. This is a permanent full-time role offering 40 hours per week. Hours of work are Monday - Sunday on a 24/7 rostered shift pattern.
Māu - You
You will be confident in carrying out daily recovery activities focusing on client strengths, be able to implement best-practice interventions and rehabilitation strategies to support our service users to meet their goals. You will use your non-judgemental attitude and belief to encourage clients to improve their life skills, communication, and community participation to enhance their recovery. You will have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as being able to work autonomously. Strong professional boundaries are a must for this role.
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have the following:
  • Level 4 mental health certificate or level 4 health and well-being qualification (or equivalent), or be willing to work towards this
  • Can maintain strong professional boundaries while building relationships with our tangata whaiora
  • Show compassion and can provide examples of working for whanau with mental health challenges
  • See the potential in people and thrive in a challenging and ever-changing environment
  • Experience of one-to-one support within the community would be preferred but not essential
  • Good communications skills to effectively communicate with the people in the community, your manager, team, and all stakeholders
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence (essential)
