Job Description

Location: Porirua, Wellington

Job type: Full and part time opportunities

Shifts: Fortnightly roster can include, AMs 7.00am - 3.00pm, PMs 3.00pm - 11.00pm and some nights shifts may be needed

Pay and benefits: $22.70-$28.25 depending on relevant qualifications

We are looking for compassionate and resilient individuals to join our forensic rehabilitation team working in a secure facility in Kenepuru. You will work alongside people with intellectual disabilities and support them through their rehabilitation journey. 

We are contracted by the Ministry of Health to provide rehabilitation services for people with high and complex needs who have committed an offence and had contact with the justice system. We provide a 24/7 rehabilitation service in a secure unit that offers clinical support, vocational opportunities and life skills programmes.

We have a strong evidenced based clinical pathway, designed specifically to guide the journey for people within the service. You will be supporting individuals with complex behavioural needs to lead safe and meaningful lives in the community. We are looking for resilient people, with calm natures and confidence to deal with challenging behaviours.

In this role you will:

  • Work in partnership with people to make positive changes in their lives through learning new skills and having new experiences
  • Support people to develop supportive relationships with family/whanau and their community
  • Encourage people to have a voice and be heard
  • Safely support the rehabilitation of people with high and complex needs
  • Develop your knowledge and skills related to supporting rehabilitation
  • Build a career working in a complex and challenging work environment
  • Manage risk and maintain safety while support the rehabilitation of people with high and complex needs in compliance with IDCC&R Act 2003
  • Support people to live a positive, healthy, and fulfilling lifestyle

Requirements:

Ideally, you will have some experience in the health and disability sector, but if not, we would still love to hear from you if this is a career you want to pursue and you have the right 'can-do' attitude.

  • Flexibility to work rostered shifts
  • A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours
  • Be willing to engage with and complete the National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2 to 4)
  • Have a full NZ drivers' licence or be able to gain this within 3 months
  • Pass a full New Zealand police clearance (Vulnerable Children's Act 2014
  • Good written and verbal communication
