Complex Supports - Residential and Respite Mission: Supporting people to live the best possible life

The people we support have a variety of challenges they face daily, and we need you to walk alongside knowing that every day is not going to run smoothly. And you will love the challenge because a run of the mill job is not for you!

Within complex supports (and don't let the name put you off, we are all complex in our own way) we work with children and youth from birth to 18 years, and young adults and adults aged 18 years to end of life. Of our services we have children's respite; however, most are people living as flatmates in permanent residential settings including our individual services for youth and adults, and our new initiative - the family partnership model (still a work in progress).

So, when we are talking about disability - what does this mean? You could work with a person who has an intellectual and/or physical impairment, brain injury, alcohol related dementia and other conditions such as Huntington's or multiple sclerosis.

N.B. Live Life Disability Support are part of Te Whatu Ora (Nelson/Marlborough) however we are not medical/clinical service. We are a community-based disability support service focused on quality-of-life outcomes and the Enabling Good Lives Principles.

Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)
Our Support Workers usually work on a fixed fortnightly roster pattern and we try to give everyone at least one weekend per fortnight off, although this is not always possible. We have full-time, permanent part-time, flexi, casual, sleepovers (attached to afternoon shifts) and awake night roles available for you to apply for. We also have Team Leader roles.

We are looking for people from all walks of life with a can-do attitude who can work with children and adults as part of a proactive support team. You will follow individual plans and understand the importance of consistency in assisting people to achieve a great life.
We're looking for people who have the following:
  • A sense of humour, energy, passion and enthusiasm
  • Optimism, are self-motivated and a great communicator
  • An honest and genuine desire to work in disability
  • Patience, flexibility and are empathetic
  • Have good written and spoken language skills in English
  • Have basic maths and computing knowledge
  • Have confidence in assisting with personal cares
  • A current full NZ driver's licence (confident driving both automatic and manual vehicles).
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2 to 4) or equivalent is preferred, or the willingness to complete this level of study in the workplace. Level 4 is required if you are applying for a team leader position

Your hourly rate will be $22.49 to $28.25 dependent upon your qualifications as recognised under the Care and Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlement Act 2017. Sleepovers of 9-hour duration are paid at the minimum adult rate. Team Leaders has a paid allowance of $4,500 for one house and $7,000 for two houses.

This position is classified by Immigration as ANZSCO 423111 and applicants for this position must be NZ or Australian Citizens, or have NZ Permanent Residency, or a valid NZ work visa.

Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks - you must declare any convictions and/or pending charges on your application form. This will include checks under the Children Act 2014 and a CYRAS check.

For the health and safety of staff and patients all Te Whatu Ora (Nelson Marlborough) staff are required to comply with the Covid-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, including boosters.
