Ā mātou rōpū (About our team)
Live Life Disability Support Services (DSS) provide support to people who have disabilities to achieve their personal aspirations and choices. DSS provides support to over 250 people in a variety of residential and respite settings across the Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough regions.
We support each person to manage their day to day lives in ways and at times that work for them. The people we support have a wide range of abilities and challenges. Some people need support with their personal care and taking care of household tasks; some need support to participate in go out and about and join in social and leisure activities and some need communication and behavioural support. We also work with family/whanau to provide time for them to have a break, while their child stays in one of our respite houses.
We actively encourage people to pursue their dreams and try out new experiences, and can guarantee that no two days working at DSS are ever the same.
We work collaboratively and in partnership with Mental Health and Addictions, Youth Justice, Oranga Tamariki, and other community organisations to meet the needs of people we support.
N.B. Disability Support Services are part of Nelson Marlborough Health, however, we are not a medical/ clinical service. We are a community based disability support service focused on quality of life Enabling Good Lives Principles.
Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki ēnei mahi (About these positions)
We are looking for people with a can-do attitude, from all walks of life, to work with children and adults as part of proactive teams in residential and respite homes. You will follow individual plans and understand the importance of consistency in assisting people to achieve a great life.
Please note that individuals who are appointed to a role are required to attend an orientation programme which usually runs Monday 9am - 4:30pm, Wednesday 8:30am - 4:30pm and Friday 9am - 4:30pm of their first week of employment. If you are not able to commit to attending during these hours during the week please make this clear in your cover letter.
Information and Assessment Evening
Our information and assessment centre evening is on Monday, 11 July
from 5:30 to 7:30PM
and you must attend in person. Applicants who do not attend will be recorded as withdrawn from the process.
One of the requirements on the night will be to complete police vetting forms. Please bring along two forms of ID (one of which must be your driver's licence). You will receive further details regarding the venue and ID requirements via text/email message on Thursday, 7 July.
Ko wai he kaitono tōtika? (Who is an appropriate applicant?)
We're looking for people from all walks of life who have/are the following:
- Have a sense of humour, energy and enthusiasm
- Are patient and kind, friendly and helpful
- Have good social skills and the ability to relate well to others
- Have the ability to understand non-verbal behaviours
- Have good written and spoken language skills in English and/or Te Reo
- Have basic maths and computing knowledge
- Have confidence in assisting with personal cares
- A current full NZ driver's licence (confident driving both automatic and manual vehicles)
- NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level two to four) or equivalent is preferred, or the willingness to complete this level of study in the workplace
This position is classified by Immigration as ANZSCO 423111 and applicants for this position must be NZ or Australian Citizens, or have NZ Permanent Residency, or a valid NZ work visa.
Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks - you must declare any convictions and/or pending charges on your application form. This will include checks under the Children Act 2014 and may include CYRAS Vetting via Oranga Tamariki for some roles.
For the health and safety of staff and patients all NMH staff are required to be vaccinated in accordance with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021, including boosters.
