Job Description

Comcare assists people with mental health or addiction issues to live well in the Canterbury community. Our Housing Service Delivery teams provide a range of housing-related assistance for those who are vulnerable to homelessness and housing loss, particularly those experiencing mental illness and/or addiction issues.  Our Services have been developed with the belief good housing is crucial to the maintenance of wellbeing and mental health and can be a key factor in recovery.

Due to an increase in demand for housing services, we have a vacancy for a Sustaining Tenancies Clinical Worker who will fulfil a specialist role in assisting people who are struggling to maintain a tenancy by providing practical assistance around such things as arranging environmental cleans, facilitating access to primary and secondary health care, improving the relationship with the landlord and creating individualised support plans with the aim of creating positive sustainable change in their lives and living arrangements. The role will assist the Team Leader with undertaking assessments and providing greater leadership support to the Sustaining Tenancies and Housing teams.

The successful applicant will have a tertiary qualification in a mental health related occupation such as Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing, with proven mentorship and support work experience.

We would require the successful applicant to act as one of Comcare’s Child Protection officers.

You will need:

  • the ability to make well considered decisions
  • a positive outlook and a passion to help others
  • to understand the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and demonstrate this in practice
  • experience in service brokerage and support planning
  • great communication skills
  • a full driver’s licence

In return Comcare provides a supportive and positive culture that is committed to the ongoing development of its workforce.
