Job Description

Youth Worker – Residential Youth Services

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of tamariki? 

Do you work well with tamariki who need support with their complex health and challenging behavioural needs?

 Do you want to be part of a team who work one on one with tamariki?

MASH Trust is an innovative leader of support services across the Disability, Mental Health and Social Sectors in the Lower North Island. 

We provide supported living environments for tamariki in the care of Oranga Tamariki and have an opportunity for a passionate and motivated Youth Worker to join this team. 

The Hours: 

We have full time 80 hour per fortnight positions available as  POOL staff members working across our Residential Youth Services based In Palmerston North.  This position means your shift pattern may change from week to week but you are provided your schedule of 80 hours at least a fortnight in advance. You must be available to work both AM and PM shifts, weekdays and weekends.

Ideally you will have experience and training in managing challenging behaviours. Your can do attitude and ability to adapt to challenging situations will make you a suitable candidate. 

We are looking for candidates with a desire to learn and grow within their role and wanting flexibility with hours of work, not just a standard nine-to-five. Shifts will include weekend work.

Skills and experience: 

You will have/be:  

  • Previous experience working with tamariki preferable 
  • Have a commitment to providing safe, quality support to tamariki 
  • Have the capability to build relationships within the community 
  • Effective co-ordination and in administration skills.
  • Able to build rapport with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Able to communicate and relate well with people at all levels.
  • Able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels.
  • Able to work in accordance with the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi 
  • Experience in dealing with challenging behaviours is desirable 
  • A current full driver's licence is required.
