Meet Rebekkah Marquet – General Manager at Kitty’s Cleaning Services – Dunedin
RebekkahAs a Future Business Leaders 2016 nominee from the Careerforce sectors, Rebekkah is inspirational in demonstrating how a young, driven person can enter a business and through hard work, upskilling and the right attitude, can quickly move into a management role.  Rebekkah is shown here with Hon Louise Upston.

“After finishing my Bachelor of Teaching, and unable to find a job teaching, so I answered an advertisement for a cleaning position. I quickly moved from cleaner to Trainer/General Manager.

“My first major project for the company was to develop training manuals and company policies and procedures. I then went on to put together, site specific job sheets, and successfully integrated Careerforce training programmes in the business.

“A lot of what I have learnt since beginning my role as Training Supervisor, and General Manager within the company is that not everyone learns at the same speed, and that it is essential that training is not a one size fits all approach. Instead, training must be flexible and it is imperative that I am able to adapt the programmes, resources and delivery to meet needs of the staff.

“I have had to overcome concerns that I had in managing and training people with more life experiences than myself. I have had to develop a balance between my position in the company, and the management of staff. I need to be both approachable, but also able to discuss performance issues with the staff.

The inaugural  Future Business Leaders Awards was held in 2016 as part of the Got A Trade campaign. The multi-sector industry training organisation, national campaign aims to raise awareness of the careers that exist in 140 trades and services in New Zealand.
