Qualification and programme Overview
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the vision habilitation/rehabilitation sector with a specialised workforce focused on the application of technical knowledge and skills in clinical and community settings.
Graduates of the programme will be able to do the following:
- Lead and coordinate an individualised quality service for people who have a vision impairment, are blind, or are deafblind, to enable them to live safe, productive and independent lives.
- Provide an orientation and mobility service to teach people who have a vision impairment, are blind, or are deafblind, to use their remaining senses to determine their position in space and to plan and negotiate safe and efficient travel.
This programme leads to the award of the New Zealand Diploma in Vision Habilitation Rehabilitation (Level 7) with specialist strands in Orientation and Mobility. The orientation and mobility programme is delivered through the workplace by Blind Low Vision NZ (formerly Blind Foundation) with support from Careerforce. Learning resources and assessments for this programme are only available through the training provider.
