Qualification and Programme Overview
This is an applied diploma which means you need to do 200 hours of practical work. The Diploma is designed to qualify advanced support workers who work closely and collaboratively to support people and whānau with complex needs. The programme is centred on developing the competencies needed to support your client’s complex needs. The learning is transferred into work practices.
The diploma includes developing/recognising the following competencies:
- Being client-focused, working independently and continuously improving.
- Working alongside tangata whenua.
- Working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Specific skills, knowledge, attributes and statutory responsibilities required for the role.
- Understanding relevant developments in Aotearoa.
It is preferred that trainees on this programme have completed a relevant Level 4 qualification, or have the experience, knowledge and skill at the required level and be employed in a relevant role.
This programme is NOT suitable for employees working in the aged care sector.

New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Level 5) Applied Practice in the context of Employment Support
Employment support services have an important role to play in improving the employment participation rate of disabled people by working alongside disabled people and employers to tailor work opportunities to their respective needs. It is therefore essential that employment support services offer a level of quality that provides assurances that these outcomes can be achieved.
This programme is designed to qualify employment practitioners/community support workers who work closely and collaboratively to support disabled people, including those with mental health issues, to find employment. It is centred on developing the competencies needed to enable disabled jobseekers to achieve their employment aspirations.
The programme was developed by Careerforce in partnership with the New Zealand Disability Support Network (NZDSN) and is hosted through Aka Toi, the Careerforce online learning platform.
It is both taught and assessed by employment specialists. This qualification has been endorsed by Working Matters, the All-of-Government Disability Employment Action Plan.

Family Violence Sexual Violence and Violence within Whānau: Workforce Capability Framework
Working closely with the different ministries and Mixed Agency Team, we have developed an interactive learning resource, with scenario-based learning and assessment handbook all available through our online learning platform, Aka Toi.
The Family Violence, Sexual Violence and Violence within Whānau: WORKFORCE CAPABILITY FRAMEWORK is embedded into our existing New Zealand Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Level 5) workplace learning and assessment support resources.
The Framework is the result of the collaboration of government representatives and non-government experts in family violence and/or sexual violence and valuable feedback from government agencies, NGOs, professional associations and academics.
It is preferred that trainees on this programme have completed a relevant Level 4 qualification, or have the experience, knowledge and skill at the required level and be employed in a relevant role.
