Job Description

He Kōrero Mō Te Tūranga | The Role

We are seeking 2 Casual Support Workers to join our MacLaurin Service based in Blockhouse Bay. MacLaurin is a residential service for female youth who have experienced trauma and complex life circumstances. In this role, you will provide consistent, trauma-informed support that promotes safety, wellbeing, positive development, and participation in the community. This is a casual position working rostered shifts across a 24/7 service.

You will:

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with rangatahi (young people) and their whānau
  • Provide day-to-day support in line with individual support plans, goals, and safety plans
  • Support young people to develop daily living skills, resilience, independence, and confidence
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and supportive living environment
  • Encourage participation in education, recreation, and community activities
  • Monitor wellbeing and report any concerns, incidents, or changes appropriately
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, external agencies, and other professionals involved in care
  • Maintain accurate documentation and effectively use client management systems
  • Celebrate achievements and support positive outcomes for young people

He Kōrero Mōu | About You

You are compassionate, reliable, and passionate about supporting young people to thrive. You have a trauma-informed approach, enjoy building positive relationships, and can remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

You will bring:

  • Experience working with youth, mental health, disability, social services, or a related sector
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and supporting vulnerable young people
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse communities, including Māori and Pasifika
  • Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills and confidence using client management systems
  • NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing Level 4 (or equivalent), or a commitment towards obtaining the relevant minimum qualification within the required timeframe
  • Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR (or be willing and able to complete this)
  • A full, clean NZ driver licence
