Careerforce adds plagiarism detection tool to help keep vulnerable people safe
Work-based learning provider for the health and wellbeing sector, Careerforce, has introduced the Copyleaks plagiarism detection tool to its Aka Toi online learning platform, to help uphold the integrity of its qualifications, and ultimately to protect vulnerable New Zealanders who rely on appropriately trained care and support staff.
Careerforce supports thousands of learners across the aged care, disability, mental health, social services, health, and community support sectors.
According to Careerforce, when learners achieve qualifications honestly, they gain the knowledge and skills required to provide effective, safe care. Academic misconduct undermines this process and risks putting vulnerable people at harm.
Copyleaks can identify content that is copied or AI-generated, automatically checking learner submissions against a wide range of online and offline sources. It provides assessors with detailed reports, enabling them to detect issues with originality and empower them to make well informed decisions about their learners’ genuine skill and knowledge.
“Introducing this tool is about strengthening the quality and integrity of our programmes,” says Damon Harrison, Manager Moderation and Assessment at Careerforce.
“Employers can be assured that graduates have genuinely demonstrated the knowledge required in the workplace. Families and clients can have greater confidence in the quality of support provided, knowing that those caring for them or their loved ones have proven, authentic capability. And for the wider sector, this reinforces trust in the qualifications that underpin safe, effective care.
“It gives assessors another tool; it supports greater confidence in their decision making and reassures employers, learners, and the wider sector that our graduates are well-equipped to provide quality care.”
Careerforce is providing training and support to its network of work-based assessors to ensure they are confident using the tool. Learners are also being advised about the changes, including how the tool will work and the importance of academic integrity in maintaining trust and confidence in their eventual qualifications.
This move reflects Careerforce’s ongoing commitment to high-quality education, learner integrity, and ensuring the health and wellbeing workforce is equipped with genuine, work-ready skills.
