Job Description

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys being out and about, chatting with people, and making a real difference — this role’s for you.

As a Support Worker, you’ll walk alongside people experiencing mental distress, helping them build confidence, learn life skills, and reconnect with their community. One day you might be cooking, cleaning, or going for a walk; the next, you might be supporting someone to reach a goal.

The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
Starting early January 2026, you’ll work on Fridays and Saturdays, 7am – 3:30 pm, based in Christchurch.

You’ll be part of our forensic residential service, supporting tangata whaiora as they move from inpatient care to living independently in the community. It’s a high-needs service, so you’ll need to bring empathy, calmness, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.

Every day is different, but you might find yourself:

  • Helping with meals, tidying up, and keeping things running smoothly
  • Supporting medication and appointments
  • Heading out for a walk, community activity, or just a chat in the sunshine
  • Writing notes, doing handovers, and working alongside your awesome teammates

At the heart of it all, you’ll be there to support someone’s journey to wellbeing — with positivity and patience.

About you | Mōu

  • You’ll enjoy doing outdoors activities
  • You’re outgoing, active, and love connecting with people
  • You’re reliable, caring, and bring great energy to your work
  • Ideally, you have the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 4) or an equivalent qualification
  • You’ve got a full driver’s licence and a current First Aid Certificate (unit standards 6400, 6401, 6402)
  • You value and practise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
