New Micro-credential launched to strengthen support for physical wellbeing

Work-based learning provider, Careerforce, has launched a new Support Physical Wellbeing (Micro-credential) Level 4, designed to fill a critical knowledge and skills gap identified across the health and wellbeing sector.

Research shows that people experiencing mental health challenges or addiction issues are more likely to face physical health problems, poorer health outcomes, and significantly reduced life expectancy. Despite this, care and support providers acknowledge that physical wellbeing is often overlooked or not prioritised, with gaps in the early detection of health issues and limited support for addressing them.

The new NZQA-recognised Micro-credential provides a practical, short programme that equips support workers with the skills to identify early signs of physical health problems and assist people to access appropriate care. It also focuses on supporting recovery by recognising the vital link between physical health and mental wellbeing.

The programme is designed for learners working in Disability Support, Mental Health and Addiction Support, Residential Aged Care, and Youth Work sectors. With 10 credits, and an expected duration of 2 months, the learning and assessment is delivered fully on-line, with on-job support from the employer.  Learners need the support from their employer.

Graduates will be equipped to tackle health inequities, support the physical wellbeing of people with mental health or addiction challenges, and deliver care that is culturally responsive.
