The Careerforce Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Support Work Strand Programme is for Support Workers to develop their skills and knowledge required to support and empower people in home and community settings.

Trainees will need to have the support of their employer to be able to enrol.

Trainees gain their skills and knowledge through on-job learning. The core value of industry-based training is that it sets people up with the right experiences, skills and knowledge. Trainees can earn while they learn, gain nationally-recognised qualifications, will benefit by gaining recognition of transferable skills and knowledge that is valued across the health and wellbeing sector.

Currently there are no enrolment fees for the Level 3 Health and Wellbeing Level 3 Support Work Strand qualification (valued at $230 NZD).

The employer usually pays the fees for staff to enrol in these programmes. To enrol in a Careerforce programme, you must be currently employed, and have the support of your employer.

As part of Budget 2020, the New Zealand Government, announced its Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund (TTAF). This fund is designed to encourage and support New Zealanders to undertake vocational education and training in targeted areas. The fund removes costs for a wide range of level 3 programmes through to December 2022.

For me, the New Zealand Certificate in
Health & Wellbeing (Support Work) at
Level 3 was a great introduction to what a
support worker does. It provided a great
framework, but also the flexibility to do your
job in a creative way. You’re able to branch
out and really explore how you can support
people and their families a lot better.
