Job Description

He kōrero mō te tūranga - The role

Casual work consists of no guaranteed hours, however, is a great way to experience a variety of services and allows you to work flexibly and we aim to give a minimum of 24 hours notice of any casual shifts available. Our services operated 24 hours a day and so, a level of flexibility is needed to cover a multitude of shift patterns.

Key We Way, is a four bedded Crisis Respite Service in Paraparaumu Beach on the Kāpiti Coast. You will be supporting people who have mental distress to move forward with their recovery within a supportive, compassionate, relaxed, peer led service in collaboration with their clinical teams. To do this you need to have lived experience, be adaptable, able to perform under pressure, empathetic and have great communication skills to work and clearly communicate with tangata whaiora as well as members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Te Whare Puna Waiora is a Specialist Forensic Community Transition Service. We work in Partnership with Te Korowai Whàriki. All referrals are received by our Service through the Community Forensic Mental Health team, after they have reviewed the referral from the In-Patient Team. The whare is a transition house for people to reconnect into the community, in a safe and supportive environment, and it is staffed 24/7.

Henry street is a 12-bed residential supported accommodation for older adults with a long history of mental illness. Our prime duty includes supporting our people with their medication, encouraging them to do their daily activities, and supporting them with hospital appointments and shopping. We help our residents develop goals based on their needs and support implementing the plans.

He kōrero mōu - About you

We're looking for people who want to make a difference, have some life experience and won't take things personally. You'll have a positive outlook, be patient and show some resilience, as well as empathy, initiative and a proactive approach.

Key We Way is a peer led service, and for this service it is vital that you have your own personal lived experience with mental health challenges and/or addiction. Please tell us about your journey to wellness in your cover letter.

You don't need to have a qualification, but you'll need to be willing to complete one with us. We're looking for someone with sound judgement and the skills to manage risk and make tough decisions.

Some of our tāngata whaiora have experienced trauma, and you'll need to have the ability to build rapport and assist in redirecting their behaviour.

We don't have many prerequisites, but you will need to:

  • have a full, clean, valid driver's licence
  • be flexible and able to work a variety of different shifts (mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays)
  • have an understanding of and being comfortable with tikanga maori and te reo would be advantageous.

This is not a nine to five, Monday to Friday job. Our whaiora require wrap around support from us, and our Support Workers do rostered shifts providing 24/7 coverage (including weekends and public holidays). Some of the work can be extremely challenging so you will need to have resilience and passion for working in Mental Health, be a flexible person with a positive attitude and exhibit the ability to build strong professional relationships with young people, whānau, staff and service providers.

Ko tā mātou mahi - We offer

In addition to driving change in your community, you'll be doing so in a national organisation with opportunities for you to grow and develop. You'll join a group of people that live by our values - which means you can take pride in not just what we achieve, but how we achieve it.

Importantly, we advocate for your wellbeing! With three days of wellbeing leave on offer, you can proactively manage your health and wellbeing.

And finally, you'll want to work here because we are committed to diversity and inclusion. So, you don't have to worry about putting on a fake work persona. Come as you are, and just be you!

Read and follow the instructions on how to apply for this job. We do not accept applications on behalf of the employer. Only contact the employer if you have questions that are not specified in the job description.

Contact the employer if you have questions about the role that isn’t otherwise stated in the job post. Otherwise, please follow the instructions on how to apply for this job.
