EaseUp is a community-based youth mental health and addictions service providing brief therapeutic interventions for rangatahi aged 12 – 24 and their whānau. After a successful pilot and subsequent expansion in Tāmaki Makaurau, we’re now expanding our reach even wider and opening a new service that will be based in either Te Awamutu, Tokoroa, Te Kuiti, or Taumaranui.

EaseUp is made up of Kaiwhakamahereora Waranga, Kaiwhakamahereora Hinengaro, and Te Hunga Tuarā Tautoko ā-aropā who work in partnership with rangatahi. The service provides holistic support to fit the needs of rangatahi and is delivered where the rangatahi feels most comfortable e.g. whare, papa rēhia etc.

Job Description

He kōrero mō te tūranga - The role
Based in Te Awamutu, Tokoroa, Te Kuiti, or Taumaranui, you will be responsible for providing clinical assessment and treatment for young people presenting with substance use issues and/or mental health issue. The service works within the principles of abstinence and harm reduction and in a holistic manner, recognising the multi-faceted problems that co-exist with AOD addiction. You will be a resilient natural leader, approachable, happy to support and offer guidance to colleagues, and most importantly who a Service Manager can trust and rely on. Young people are supported to work towards their holistic goals by your integration of clinical expertise and competencies, with recovery approaches. Completing client pathway administration is also a large part of the role.
He kōrero mōu - About you
Sometimes faced with challenging behaviour you'll utilise your calmness to engage and empathise with whānau and be quick to think on your feet with how to deal with situations when whānau become unwell and are in need of support. You will need to be flexible and happy to pick up "hands on" duties. Being able to demonstrate assertiveness, accountability and compassion for people and encourage them to change is really important to this role. The ability to coach and mentor staff and communicate effectively will also be beneficial. You'll need the following:
  • A current registration with a professional body covered by HPCA 2003 Act, Social Work or DAPAANZ Registration, and have a current APC
  • Post qualifying experience working within the Mental Health/AO Sector
  • Resilience and strong personal and professional boundaries
  • A calm and patient approach to challenges you may face
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a residential setting would be beneficial
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence
  • The right to work in New Zealand
