The Health and Disability Kaiāwhina Workforce Action Plan was introduced at the Careerforce Workforce Development Conference, held at Te Papa, Wellington 20-21 May 2014.

Presented early in the conference programme, the plan was well received with other conference presenters often making reference to the plan and confirming their support.

The Action Plan was introduced by Richard Westlake, Careerforce Board Chair and Dr Graeme Benny, Director, Health Workforce New Zealand. They each outlined how their Board’s fully support and endorse the plan.  They also outlined why they entered the partnership and their commitment to it going forward.

Independent Facilitator of the project, Cathy Cooney, outlined the process and development of the Plan.  Cathy has a strong background of experience and knowledge from the health and disability sector.  Among her previous roles, she was CEO of the Lakes District Health Board.  She outlined the structure of the plan, the Kaiāwhina workforce landscape and the action plan framework, giving an outline of the stage the plan is currently at in its development.

Cathy also introduced the new website www.workforceinaction.org.nz.  The site is a ‘work in progress’.  It will give people an opportunity to see how things are progressing, and allow them to provide feedback.

Cathy Cooney together with personnel from both Careerforce and Health Workforce New Zealand welcomed questions from conference attendees at a booth during the two days.
