Careerforce has added a suite of targeted Foundation packages to its Gateway options for high schools.

The new packages are designed to make selecting unit standards simple. They provide a foundation of core knowledge at Level 2 and Level 3 to give senior students experience of the health, youth, and cleaning sectors, while gaining 15 to 20 credits towards NCEA.

Students who complete a Foundation package will receive a Careerforce Certificate to recognise their achievement. Units within the packages will go towards completing a full qualification if students later move into workplace training.

Enhanced learner support

Through these Foundation packages, Careerforce is able to offer more learner support.

Learners enrolling in the new packages will be introduced to their learning by a Careerforce assessor through a face-to-face or an online induction session, to ensure they feel confident about what they will experience and learn.

An assessor will also be available to help students as they go through the programme and will work with them to overcome barriers. This enhanced support ensures students have every opportunity to complete their learning.

Online resources available

Schools are encouraged to enrol via Aka Toi, Careerforce’s online learning platform. Aka Toi offers additional learning resources which are interactive, engaging and accessible on all devices. Aka Toi reduces the need to print learning guides, while still giving students the option to complete their assessments on paper if preferred.

Careerforce is also seeking NZQA approval for these foundation packages to become micro-credentials. The benefit of a micro-credential is that it is registered as a qualification on the student’s record of learning, and which will be useful to have on a CV.
