Micro-credential Overview

This micro-credential is designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to support a person with a disability in a health or wellbeing setting. It is also designed to support outcomes that enable them to live a good life in Aotearoa New Zealand, and for the support worker to reflect on their own practice.


Learning outcomes:

  • The ability to understand Enabling Good Lives initiatives and the impact on future support services in Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • The ability to understand different service philosophies used in a wellbeing setting.
  • Being able to work alongside a person to reach their personal goals and aspirations.
  • Being able to evaluate their own practice.

Completion of this micro-credential may contribute to the achievement of our New Zealand Apprenticeship in Disability Support.


Prerequisites

Learners need to be working in a relevant disability support sector that enables them to meet all micro-credential outcomes. Learners are also required to have reasonable computer literacy as micro-credential assessments are only offered online (via Aka Toi).

This micro-credential is ideal for people who have completed a Health and Wellbeing apprenticeship with a different specialism and want to complete the disability specialism; or people who hold the equivalence of a level 4 support work qualification and want to refresh/update their skills and have them formally recognised. Learners must be working under the Enabling Good Lives (EGL) framework. For example; A disability services provider and/or a person accessing individualised funding.

Learning and assessments will be completed via Careerforce’s online learning and assessment portal, Aka Toi.

The enrolment fee for this micro-credential is $110.00 (inc GST) NZD for a standard enrolment. For full service enrolments, refer to the price list. The employer usually pays the fees for staff to enrol in these programmes. To enrol in a Careerforce programme, you must be currently employed and have the support of your employer.
