Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
We’re looking for a casual youth workers to join our Nelson Residential team and report to the Team Coach.  You’ll be supporting taiohi in a home like environment to develop life skills so they can thrive in their community. You must have the ability to relate to Taiohi and help them with goal planning, building their wellbeing, resilience and confidence.

This role you will be covering a range of shifts:

  • AM Shift working 7.00am-3.30am
  • PM Shift working 3.00pm-11.30pm
  • Awake night shift working 11.00pm-7.30am

You might be called to work a morning, afternoon, or awake night shift. In particular, we're seeking individuals who are open to working the awake night shift.  As part of the overnight shift only, you'll be provided with a complimentary meal.  The awake night shift may be ideal for students balancing work and studies; during downtime while service users are asleep, you'll have access to free WiFi to work on assignments or study in a comfortable environment.

About You | Mōu
You’ll work in a recovery focused way using a person-centred approach and have impeccable attention to detail. 

You’ll also

  • Hold a National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Support Work (level 4), National Certificate in Youth Work, Level 4 certificate in Health and Wellbeing, a health qualification or above tertiary qualification.  To check equivalency go to https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/our-health-system/pay-equity-settlements/care-and-support-workers-pay-equity-settlement/pay-equity-and-qualification-equivalencies
  • Have an understanding of trauma-informed care and experience working with young people
  • Be experienced or comfortable with group facilitation
  • A current and full New Zealand driver’s licence
  • A current New Zealand first aid certificate, or be prepared to obtain one
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • Passionate about supporting young people to build confidence, and resilience
  • Enjoy supporting, mentoring and inspiring others with enthusiasm
  • The sort of person who will listen deeply to our youth
  • A fresh thinker, using curiosity and imagination to generate new ideas
