Careerforce, as the qualification developer has commenced a scheduled qualification review of the New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Studies (Applied) (Level 6) [Ref: 2733].

Any programme that leads to the awarding of the qualification is not part of this qualification review.

Findings and Recommendation

Thank you to all who have participated in the qualification review.

The consultation identified that this qualification no longer provides the sector with qualified workers who have the right skills, knowledge and attributes needed to work with people with addiction-related conditions. It was deemed that there is a need to have skilled and registered addiction specialised practitioners with a qualification at level 7 or bachelor’s degree however, there was no consensus at this time due to the rapid changes going on in industry.

Careerforce recommends the qualification is expired as it no longer meets the needs of the addiction sector. The last date to meet the requirements of the qualification will be 31 December 2023.
